Amanda Powers, Chief Operating Officer of New Mexico United, was the keynote speaker for CREW New Mexico's February meeting. Amanda delivered an exciting and dynamic presentation to CREW members and guests about New Mexico’s new professional soccer team. Focused around creating a platform for social and economic change in New Mexico, Amanda explored the many ways that New Mexico United is impacting our state both on and off the field. At their core, New Mexico United is striving to evoke a feeling by “bringing New Mexicans together in ways they’ve never experienced before.” To achieve togetherness, they are working to foster local traditions, craft a culture rooted in artistic inspiration and are working to build champions and heroes. They want players to be recognizable, approachable and are putting an emphasis on community engagement. The Club has also shown its commitment to the city by leasing apartments at One Central for the athletes so they can be part of Albuquerque’s dynamic downtown environment.
Economically, the Club is part of a network of the fastest growing Professional Sports Leagues in the United States & Canada. They have done their homework to ensure a long term presence and return on investment. Currently, the United are hosting games at the Isotopes Stadium with tickets ranging from $10 - $25, and hope to get at least 6,000 fans to every game so they can achieve their ultimate goal of building a $35M stadium in downtown. This stadium is part of a master plan to increase consumer spending, create job growth, stimulate tourism and create a culture that is unified through the power of sports. This stadium will be a major game changer for downtown Albuquerque.
